Towcestrians Hockey Club Men’s O35s braved Storm Bert to face Witney in a Tier 2 Plate clash, proving that wisdom doesn’t always stop you from making questionable decisions. On a pitch that left your shoes feeling like a swimming pool, nothing stayed dry, the showers were icy, but the beer was warm. A 7-1 defeat didn’t dampen the team’s spirits—though the same couldn’t be said for their kit.
Key moments included:
• John Joe, baffled that choosing a winter sport meant playing in the rain, even when he has the most kit on to keep him dry.
• Rupert, who forgot a change of clothes, ensuring a soggy drive home.
• Andy, “injuring” his calf to move up front, conveniently to ensure he remained the only goalscorer for the team this season.
• Roger, repeatedly wandering into CM before suddenly regaining his memory and realising he was supposed to be RB.
• Will, playing in slicks, earned a green card when his “brakes” failed to stop him tracking back.
Despite the conditions and scoreline, Tows left in good spirits. On to Tier 3—hopefully with a long-overdue home game and some less questionable weather!
